In the retrieval algorithms of OMI L2 products Near-real-time Ice and Snow Extent (NISE) maps are being used. These maps provide daily information on the global sea ice concentrations and snow extent. From April 5th 2016 onwards, the quality of the NISE maps is not guaranteed, as the 37V channel of the DMSP F17 satellite from which the NISE maps are derived is generating erroneous data. No alternative source for these NISE maps is currently available. Note that this potentially impacts the quality of the L2 products.
